this is obviously beautiful, that's fine.
but it also steals from about a million people, which is not so fine.

i've seen the terms self-parodic and meta-viral used in relation to this thing, which both make me vomit. i steal too, i suppose, and show it here for you - but - i don't pretend it's my work, i don't earn a profit, and i'm not trying to sell you something. authorship, influence, the same discussion that has come to define the work of art in the age of digital reproduction. still, this all just leaves you feeling uneasy.

come back summer.

also, an aside:
why is so much contemporary photography so stagnant, vapid, and shallow? it's easy to take interesting photographs of beautiful girls. it's the easiest thing in the world. ryan mcginley and the mid/late 1990s vice real-world style has just ruined a whole generation of photographers. take your camera everywhere, but taking photographs of the parties you go to does not equal art. there is already a cobra-snake; you're ten years late. having a hand-held flash and a two thousand dollar camera will make all of your photographs aesthetically pleasing, but really, they're not saying anything to anyone but yourself. build a style, tell a story, shoot on film again; struggle to reveal something hidden: figure it out as you go. having a dozen topless photographs is not a portfolio.
tirade over.

il divo.

the limits of control.
wanted to like this movie, very much so, but just couldn't.
appreciate the concept, yet enduring the execution is painful.
not a good movie, but still a beautiful one.

you have a sizable listening audience. you apparently know how to please them. anybody given a $400 million contract must know what he is doing.
that's what offends me. you know exactly what you're doing.

bmw museum, munich.
but: how could you put so much thought and effort into such a truly astounding work; something both visceral and technical - and then fill the walls behind with such inane and offensively banal and cliche'd word-questions? innovations... technology... design... dialogue... jesusfuckingchrist.
